Based in Santa Monica,
this group played all up and down the California coast for many years.
Munkafust sort-of broke up (they promised to play reunion shows
every couple of years) because they weren`t getting paid enough to feed
their fricken` families. Couple that fact with the quality of Munkafust`s
music, and that should tell you basically all you need to know about
the priorities of the United States as a society, and whether Capitalism
really is the best of all possible systems. Munkafust is survived
by Evan Brau,
the lead singer, who still plays solo gigs and is working on his second
solo album.
"Dirt off My Soul" by Munkafust
The journey starts
in the seat of my mind
I long to find a consciousness divine
Like a vacuum, it lifts the dirt off my soul
Eliminating circumstances beyond my control
I will reach
you, Oh I will reach you now
My mind and body, together they know how
Rise, I will rise before my senses return
Like the smoke from the ritual fire that burns...
...in your name
There's a fire
burning inside of me
Gathering strength with every
bad thought I set free
There's a fire burning out of control
Whose smoke carries away the dirt off my soul
Gazing
steady at the candle wick's flame
Breathing deeply to relax my brain
Like a flower I sit at one with myself
My roots are planted,
my petals searching for help
Becoming
effortless my mind is at ease
Running rampant with the nothingness it sees
My powers culminate in something hard to define
And it all started in the seat of my mind
There's
a fire burning inside of me
Gathering strength with every
bad thought I set free
There's a fire burning out of control
Whose smoke carries away the dirt off my soul
There's a fire
and it's burning inside of me
Gathering strength with every
bad thought I set free
There's a fire and it's burning out of control
The smoke carries away the dirt off my soul
...the dirt off my soul

from "Morning Rain" by Munkafust
Now I feel, my life is siftin' away
All the things my eyes notice, that my heart can't explain!
I cherish the good times, and I suffer through pain
And I'll be dancing in the morning rain,
You and I will be dancing in the morning rain!
Wanna know why I left my home and took a job in a foreign country? Because
when I look at where America is headed, "There are things my eyes
notice, that my heart can't explain".
